I took one of those absolutely meaningless Facebook quizzes the other day.  If you have spent any time on Facebook, you know the ones I am talking about.  Their subjects range from IQ quizzes to cats and dogs. The quiz I took had piqued my interest since it was finding out which disciple of Jesus you are most like.  My result, Philip.  The explanation said that Philip was a thinker, prone to pay more attention to logic than feelings.   I was surprised.  The outcome was fairly correct as I do lean towards logic, sometimes to a fault.

Despite that, I always identified with Peter or Thomas.  Peter was always impetuous and messing up or Thomas was presented with doubts and insecurities.  I guess we can identify a little bit with all the disciples in one way or another.  Interestingly, Philip is a disciple that we do not hear much about.

However, if we go to John 14 there was an exchange between Jesus and Philip.  Jesus asks Philip, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known me, Philip?”  Ouch.  Oswald Chambers talks about this when he says: “The last One with whom we get intimate is Jesus…We receive His blessings and know His word, but do we know Him?”   This gets me wondering if I really do as well.  Many times, in life we go through the motions of Christianity, but do we really know Jesus? Intimately?

Oswald Chambers goes on to say that “the saint who is intimate with Jesus will never leave impressions of himself but only the impressions that Jesus is have unhindered way, because the last abyss of his nature has been satisfied by Jesus.”   Reading that, I realize that I have a long way to go to reach that e level of personal intimacy with Jesus.

John 14:7-9, “If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

How long have you known Jesus?  Why not take the time to ask Him to fill your entire being, down to the last void, that you may come to know Him intimately?  If you do not know his as your Lord and Savior, now is the time to do so!
